Michael R. King has been named chief financial officer for Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

As CFO, King will be responsible for materials management, patient financial services, general accounting, management engineering, decision support and care management.  He will be highly involved in customer service activities.

“I am excited to have Mike join our team,” said RMH President Jim Krauss. “He brings experience working in progressive markets and served as a senior leader in an organization recognized nationally for quality. As CFO, Mike will look beyond the numbers to the reason  why we are here—to take care of the patients. His approach to financial issues will always be centered around that purpose.”

King began his career at Humana, a proprietary health system, where he worked his way from financial analyst to chief financial officer of a 22-hospital region within the system. King later served as vice-president of finance and managed care at Baptist Healthcare System in Pensacola, Fla. King most recently served as the chief financial officer of Jupiter Medical Center in Florida.

 

“I am excited and grateful to be here,” King said. “The friendly welcome from the staff and community members has been overwhelming. It is an exciting opportunity to be part of the RMH leadership team at a time when such significant change is occurring.

 

“Working my way through school as an orderly gave me a unique view of hospitals—from the inside out,” he continued. “I am eager to work with other members of the RMH team to continue improving services we provide to the community.”

 

King holds a bachelor of science degree in health care management from the University of Alabama, with an emphasis on finance. He earned his master's degree in business administration from the University of Louisville, Ky.

 

King is a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He also became certified as an emergency medical technician and used that training by working in a hospital while completing his undergraduate studies.
